Start & Operate a Freelance Business

In this one day seminar, practicing interpreters will learn the fundamentals of running a business of one. The seminar covers three main areas:

  • Marketing your services: Understanding your target markets; making yourself visible on the Internet; virtual and on-site networking strategies; using professional groups and social media; essential marketing etiquette
  • Managing your finances: Pricing your services using the experience/skills/market pricing matrix, and understanding the rationale for price differentiation; managing established rates; invoicing and accounting basics
  • Managing your clients: Good customer service makes a difference; acting with integrity and reliability; establishing and maintaining a presence

To attain a certificate of completion for this seminar, students need to attend all three sessions. Attendees will receive a set of supporting materials with this seminar.
