Founded by experienced language industry professionals, VII was created to make high-quality interpreter education more accessible while promoting professionalism, consistency, and excellence throughout the interpreting profession.
Founders
Giovanni Donatelli
President and co-founder
Giovanni Donatelli is President and co-founder of the Virginia Institute of Interpreting and he is responsible for overseeing all operations at the Institute. Mr. Donatelli is an Award Winning Entrepreneur in the language services industry.
Mr. Donatelli has served on the board of directors of the Association of Language Companies from 2010 – 2016, and is also serving on the Board of Directors for the Joint National Council on Languages (JNCL). He has been a guest speaker on language access issues to numerous organizations around the country, and is regarded as a foremost leader in language access programs.
A native of Pescara, Italy, Mr. Donatelli received his MBA from the College of William and Mary and received his BS in Finance from Virginia Tech.
Rocío Txabarriaga
Executive Vice President, Chief Editor and co-founder
Rocío Txabarriaga, MA is Executive Vice President, Chief Editor and co-founder of Virginia Institute of Interpreting and Virginia Institute Press. She is responsible for course planning, development, validation, and maintenance. She also runs operations for Virginia Institute of Interpreting’s publishing branch, Virginia Institute Press.
Ms. Txabarriaga has over twenty years of experience in language services and international business management ranging from independent consulting to senior executive positions, and business ownership. Her extensive experience spans operations, ISO-quality processes, interpreter recruiting and training, qualitative and quantitative market research and analysis, as well as in-depth involvement with several language technology platforms.
Ms. Txabarriaga has several degrees, including a Master’s from Middlebury University’s Institute of International Studies at Monterey, has earned many certificates, and speaks five languages fluently. Ms. Txabarriaga is also a NASBITE-Certified Global Business Professional, and an accomplished writer and public speaker.

Jordan Coriza is a Spanish and Portuguese interpreter and translator with over 10 years of experience, spanning legal, community, and medical interpreting in the Boston, Massachusetts, area. He has also taught medical interpreting classes and conducted international workshops on the subject of translation and interpretation. Mr. Coriza holds an MA in Fine Arts in fiction writing and a BA in English from Boston University.
Beth L. Farkas has 10 years of experience working as a medical interpreter and freelance translator and editor. As a professional interpreter, she has worked in-house in a hospital setting and over the phone for a triage call center. She holds a Certified Healthcare Interpreter™ credential from the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters, and is ATA-certified for Spanish>English translations. Ms. Farkas holds an MA in Translation and a BA in Spanish.
Natalia Klimova has 16 years of experience working as an interpreter and translator, both in-house for American and British consulting companies, and as a freelancer. Ms. Klimova has interpreted for a number of professional programs sponsored by the State Department, USAID and the Library of Congress. Her working languages are English, Russian and Ukrainian. She holds an MA in English Philology and a BA in Economics.
Karmele Landaribar is a federally and California-state certified interpreter with over 12 years of professional experience. Her current work includes interpreting assignments in criminal and civil proceedings, as well as legal depositions and professional conferences. Her background spans translation and editing work for major financial corporations in her native Spain, as well as for several language services companies in the United States. Ms. Landaribar holds a Summa Cum Laude BA in Spanish with an emphasis in Linguistics from the University of California at Los Angeles, and has also completed coursework on Court Interpreting, Civil Proceedings, and Conference Interpreting.
